Kahlo’s paintings often draw on her own life and questions of gender, identity and also her experience of living with chronic pain after she was involved in an accident early in her adult life. Since her death, Kahlo has been celebrated as one of the most important 20th-centry artists and symbol for the feminist movement in the 1970s and beyond.
